The Shocking Truth About Night Splints and Plantar Fasciitis

Shocking truth # 1:

Night splints don’t work!

They don’t work because they don’t correct the cause of plantar fasciitis.

Night splints are great at stretching the fascia.

That’s it!

But, and herein lies the problem, you don’t have plantar fasciitis because your plantar fascia is too tight.

Plantar fasciitis is caused by an already over stretched fascia.

The fascia is not designed to handle this constant stretch stress and begins to tear.

This tearing creates the pain and inflammation.

Shocking truth # 2.

Night splints will actually make you worse the more you use them.

Night splints are designed to provide a constant, sustained, stretch to the fascia.

Although this may help temporarily reduce your pain, it does nothing to address your foot in gravity.

You don’t walk around with this splint and this splint does not improve your foot function against gravity.

Night splints stretch.

That’s it and considering the fascia is already over stretched, additional stretching will only retard your healing and further worsen how your foot handles gravity.

Shocking truth # 3.

Night splints are uncomfortable.

They’re big and bulky and the plastic is hard.

Who really wants to sleep with this in their warm and comfy bed every night for the rest of their life?

Nobody.

That’s why your treatment for plantar fasciitis must correct the cause.

Simply put, night splints do not correct the cause of plantar fasciitis and that’s why they don’t work.

Please!

Don’t lose hope.

Help is out there.

There is a way to actually correct the cause of your plantar fasciitis, that’s custom made, specific to everything about you.

Don’t you deserve a truly custom approach?

We’d like to think so.

Another Great Arizona Orthotics Success Story

“I was suffering from bunions, flat feet, hip pain and all sorts of problems with my feet…until I met Dr. Dave. Now I’m not suffering from that hip pain, joint pain, flat feet problems and my bunions.”

Another great success story from someone needlessly suffering until they experienced the difference between pre-made inserts, insoles and arch supports, and a truly custom precision calibrated foot orthotic.

We love these stories.

Thank you for sharing Kara.

We appreciate you!

Folks, when your foot problems begin to heal, you tend to start thinking about all those things you thought you’d never do again.

Awesome feeling.

Does My Health Insurance Policy Cover Custom Foot Orthotics

Great question!

Health Insurance companies accept claims for consideration on health insurance claim forms.

On that form, there’s a special place for what’s called a CPT code.

CPT stands for current procedural terminology and in this case, CPT code L3000 describes custom foot orthotics.

BORING!

Yeah, we know, but it’s how insurance companies process claims.

Now you know.

So, back to the question at hand.

Does my health insurance cover custom foot orthotics?

Well, that depends on whether or not you have orthotics coverage in your policy.

The mere fact you have insurance doesn’t mean they’re going to pay for every procedure or product known to man.

Very often we meet people whose lives would change dramatically if they could only wear custom foot orthotics, but they have no coverage.

Most choose to pay out of pocket.

Sadly, the rest continue to suffer.

Or, they waste time getting painful injections or, worse yet, having surgery simply because their insurance will cover it.

Folks, you’re insurance company does not care about you.

They don’t care if you get cut on or injected.

To them, it’s black and white.

If your policy has the coverage, they pay for it regardless of whether or not it’s in your best interest.

Remember, they’re not the doctor who spent time listening to your concerns, who examined you and made the recommendation for custom foot orthotics.

Truth is: It doesn’t even matter if your doctor feels it will literally save your life as in the case of a heart surgery.

If it’s not in your policy – DENIED, and you’ll need to pay out of pocket!

That’s the bad news.

Here’s the good news.

It’s easy to find out if you have coverage.

Call the customer service number on your health insurance card and ask.

Ask specifically if you have coverage for CPT code L3000.

It’s that easy.

If you do, great.

If you don’t, no big deal.

We only charge $425 for the pair.

Best investment you’ll ever make!

Don’t believe us.

Listen to what some of our patients had to say.

How Exactly is Arizona Orthotics Unique? Part I – Made From Scratch.

Arizona Orthotics proudly offers the ONLY medical grade custom foot orthotic on the market that’s made Completely From Scratch.

No generic starter plates.

No add-on pads.

No arch filler.

Impressive right?

Let’s break it down so you can see how truly impressive it actually is!

What’s a generic starter plate?

This is an all-purpose one-size-fits-all mold from which practically every over-the-counter insert, insole, arch supports is made.

In other words, it’s the shape of the pre-made product you’re about to buy that’s worthless.

Unfortunately most of the products currently on the market are NOT actually “custom”.

They’re mass-produced and specific to the needs of NOBODY.

Manufacturers like Dr. Sholls, SuperFeet and Good Feet think people are stupid and don’t own a dictionary.

Every dictionary states the word custom means made to the specifications of the individual.

Yet, ALL of their products are PRE-MADE!

Think about that.

You walk into the store and its right there on the shelf.

Absurd, and a clear violation of the word custom!

False advertising IS NOT OKAY.

And, it’s not okay you’re suffering continues with the thought “custom” products don’t work.

This infuriates us!

Okay, so what’s an add-on pad?

This is an attempt to make a bad product more comfortable.

This is when someone takes a “pad” and sticks it onto the insert, insole or arch support you’re wearing because you told them it doesn’t feel quite right.

It’s basically an attempt to help you feel better.

This is what happens when you purchase the WRONG FIT product.

Here at Arizona Orthotics proudly make every custom foot orthotic from scratch specific to your foot’s correct arch up alignment – MASS Position.

No need to deal with add-ons.

We’ll cover MASS Position in part II.

Lastly, what’s an arch filler?

It’s exactly what it sounds like.

It’s when the space under the arch is filled up to make the insert, insole, arch support or orthotic more stiff.

Folks, when you’re working with a pre-made product and just can’t get it right the first time, you get add-on pads and arch support.

This is how inferior quality products attempt to make right what’s wrong.

This is what pre-made, NOT CUSTOM, products are forced to do when they don’t have the technology to precision calibrate your orthotic specific to your body weight, your foot flexibility and your activity level.

We’ll discuss precision calibration in part III of our uniqueness series.

Stay tuned and thanks for checking us out.

How Exactly is Arizona Orthotics Unique? Part II – MASS Position

Arizona Orthotics proudly offers the only medical-grade custom foot orthotic currently available based on a completely new paradigm – MASS position (Maximal Arch Supination Stabilization).

MASS position states the foot is a biomechanical marvel that functions best when the foot is restored to its most efficient and most stable position while you’re actually upright and walking.

This is NOT some pre-made insole, insert or arch support that’s attempting to have your foot fit their mold.

MASS position is the best choice for a reason!

MASS position is designed to optimize foot alignment and function during weight-bearing activities specific to you.

Specific to each foot’s corrected ARCH-UP foot alignment.

Huge difference between our made-from-scratch custom foot orthotics and something pre-made.

This corrected MASS position is captured by a unique 3-D impression technique that utilizes a certain density of foam and a sequence of semi-weight-bearing impressions that emulate healthy stance-phase gait.

This is called gait-referenced casting.

VIDEO: How we capture your foot’s arch-up alignment.

The resulting orthotic plastic shell fits the shape of each foot like a glove.

Next time we’ll discuss our 3rd unique trait – precision calibration!

Stay tuned.

How Exactly is Arizona Orthotics Unique? Part III – Precision Calibration

Here at Arizona Orthotics we proudly offer the only precision calibrated custom foot orthotic ON THE MARKET.

Calibration involves putting every custom orthotic into a high pressure chamber for testing.

Once the orthotic is inside the chamber an air bladder is continuously filled until there’s enough pressure against the orthotic to make it flex down, just like your foot would when you stand on it.

See picture.

precision calibration

Next, a digital pin moves along the undersurface of the orthotic.

This pin measures the exact distance the orthotic shell deflects as a result of the downward pressure exerted.

Then we can fine-tune exactly how much flex your orthotic has to ensure it’s perfect for YOUR body weight, YOUR foot flexibility and YOUR activity level.

In other words, every orthotic is precision calibrated to have just the right amount of flex so each foot can transition between pronation and supination with ease.

This is how foot problems begin to heal.

This is how people otherwise scheduled for plantar fasciitis and bunion surgery are able to cancel their surgeries and get on with life.

This is how we are unique!

Wait!

Why is precision calibration actually important?

Great question!

Think about it like this.

If you need eyeglasses, does your optometrist ask only if you are near or farsighted?

No.

Of course not.

They measure the specific sight capacity of each eye, then calibrate the lens for each eye to match its specific need.

Here’s another example.

If you need a hearing aid, do they just measure the overall size of your ear?

Again, no.

They make a careful impression of your ear canal and measure your hearing capacity to ensure your hearing aid meets the specific needs of your ear.

So then why would expect to walk into a store or buy something from the internet and have it match your exact needs?

And yet that’s how practically every “custom” product on the market is purchased.

Sad!

If you’re not wearing a made-from-scratch, precision calibrated, MASS position, custom foot orthotic from Arizona Orthotics, THERE’S HOPE!

Please don’t give up.

Best Heel Spur Treatment

In order to correct the cause of your heel spur, you must stop the buildup of calcium.

This means you need to stop the foot’s underlying seat-belt like plantar fascia from tugging on your heel bone also know as your calcaneus.

You see, when the natural ARCH-UP alignment of your foot begins to drop the underlying fascia is constantly stretched while standing.

Think of the arch of your foot like an upside down letter U.

Running along the entire inside of the U, your arch, is the plantar fascia.

This fascia is responsible for the strength and stability of your arch – the U.

The problem here is that shoes are mass-produced and never have adequate support specific to individual needs.

Mass-produced shoes fail to support the exact shape of your arch.

As a result, your body weight and gravity force the arch DOWN.

This makes your foot a very bad shock absorber and creates unnecessary tension.

And, as the arch is forced down, the U starts to buckle and open up.

As your arch opens up, the fascia is stretched.

Stretched beyond its limit.

Stretched so hard that it pulls on the heel bone.

As a result, calcium builds up as a sort of “protective measure”.

The problem is that the calcium continues to build as the arch remains flat and now you have a painful spur.

The longer the arch stay down, the bigger and typically the more painful the spur.

So, in order to correct the cause of your heel spur you must raise the arch and STOP the pulling.

It’s that simple.

That’s the only way to eliminate the over stretching and stop calcium from accumulating.

And…

That’s exactly why essential oils, injections, heel spur pads, lithotripsy and surgery DO NOT HELP.

They don’t help because they don’t correct the underlying issue with the fascia related to the arch being down.

Folks, if you want your heel spur to go away, you need to put the foot back into its optimal ARCH-UP alignment.

Only then can the spur begin to resorb and the pain lessen long-term.

Here’s the good news.

This is easily accomplished with a precision calibrated custom foot orthotic specifically designed to match everything about you.

The Truth About Heel Spurs

The truth is heel spurs hurt and for a good reason.

Heel spurs are both sharp and hard.

When your body weight pushes the spur down into the surrounding softer areas, you stab yourself.

So, heel spurs typically only hurt when you’re standing or walking.

Here’s the good news.

Heel spurs are not some unexplainable form of bad luck.

In other words, heel spurs do not appear out of thin air for no reason whatsoever.

Heels spurs only begin to form when the seat-belt like plantar fascia is over stretched.

You see, the plantar fascia begins at the heel bone (calcaneus) and ends in the toes (metatarsals).

When the arch of each foot remains in it’s optimal arch-up alignment the fascia can effectively function a spring and remains relaxed.

When the arch of the foot drops, the fascia is stretched beyond it’s anatomical limit.

It’s that simple.

When the fascia is stretched, it’s stressed; the beginning and end are essentially playing tug-of-war.

The body’s natural, but painful, response is to begin laying down calcium.

Unless the tug-of-war stops, the calcium continues to build until you eventually have pain.

Not sure if you have a heel spur?

Not sure if your arch has fallen and your fascia is over stretched?

Take an x-ray.

If you have a heel spur, your arch has fallen and your plantar fascia is over stretched.

End of story.

Next time we’ll discuss the best heel spur treatment and also discuss why other treatment options are potentially more harmful than beneficial.

Stay tuned!

Buyer Beware: Bunion Bootie Fails to Make the Grade

Protect your bunion.

Straighten your valgus deformity.

Rehabilitate your hallux valgus.

This is exactly what the Bunion Bootie website suggests is possible with their .4mm bootie.

Visit Amazon to purchase the Bunion Bootie and it states, Bunion Bootie is the complete package; protective, corrective, practical, comfortable, & discrete!”

Let’s take a closer look, one claim at a time.

Then, we’ll consider whether these claims are simply too good to be true.

First Claim: Protection

Bunion sufferers know all about the friction this deformity creates inside a shoe.

Friction creates heat, tissue breakdown and blisters making an already painful condition worse.

We give the Bunion Bootie an A+ for protection.

This bootie is sleek enough to be worn under a sock providing an additional .4mm layer of protection against friction.

Love it!

Second Claim: Straighten

Bunions are a sign your foot is not properly handling the stress of your body weight and gravity while standing.

This means, unless the proposed treatment can improve the way your foot handles gravity, is has ZERO potential to straighten the valgus stress responsible for your bunion deformity long-term.

According to the manufacturer, “By anchoring the Bootie around the ankle, the big toe is gently pulled away from the other toes, often improving balance and restoring a more natural alignment.”

The Bunion Bootie may certainly help straighten the big toe, but only while seated or lying down.

Pointless.

As soon as you stand up…BAM!

Gravity!

In other words, the soft flexible nature of this product can never support your feet in their optimal arch-up alignment.

Without restoring proper alignment to the foot, you will never change how it handles gravity.

We give the Bunion Bootie a F for straighten.

Third Claim: Rehabilitate

Rehabilitate means to bring back to a normal, healthy condition.

Remember gravity?

Exactly.

We also give the Bunion Bootie a F for rehabilitate.

The Bunion Bootie can not rehabilitate your bunion because it fails to address the cause of your bunion.

Score: 33% (1 claim true, 2 false)

Buyer Beware: The claims being made by Bunion Bootie are clearly too good to be true!

Grade: F
